Enshrouded, the new game mixing action RPG, survival, construction and cooperation in a spirit of Valheim and Zelda in 2023!

Introducing Enshrouded

The Keen Games studio, behind the very cute and fantastic Portal Knights, is launching a game with a much more realistic and ambitious aesthetic called Enshrouded. It's a title at the crossroads of an action RPG and a survival game, a bit like Conan Exile, all through a cooperative adventure for up to 16 players with Minecraft-style construction elements. You will have to explore, craft, fight and even build a base or an entire city in a medieval and fantastic universe!

History

Enshrouded is set in a world where magic is on the decline and an epidemic has been unleashed from the bowels of the Earth. All that remains are mutant survivors of an ancient people who roam the fog, and ancient warriors who slumber in temples. The kingdom called Embervale has thus been lost, destroyed by this plague triggered by the ancestors of the Flameborns, that is to say your character, a supernatural warrior blessed by fire, whose mission is to explore a whole series of biomes. (castles, caves, forests, deserts, etc.) in order to save legendary craftsmen and rebuild civilization.

Principle of the game

Enshrouded is a Valheim meets Zelda. This game has a large open world to explore, you will have to harvest, hunt, fight and loot, with the addition of a food system which also imprints some mechanics in Valheim, where eating will bring you buffs but however will not condemn you to dead if you don't eat. Unlike Valheim, Enshrouded is a fixed world with a voxel environment, therefore completely destructible.

The only safe areas will be the mountaintops above the Fog: to further explore the world, you'll need to descend into the lower regions, where players can only survive for a limited time before having to resurface. You will have to traverse forests, caves and dungeons in search of secret knowledge and treasures to increase your power in order to face the colossi, described by the studio as "ruthless bosses in store for us to find grueling battles".

Enshrouded constructs

Players will be able to completely shape the terrain and create entire villages using materials and furniture. Above the fog you will gather resources, build your base camp, then expand it. You will be able to limit yourself to a house or an entire kingdom for you and your friends. The constructions are block by block like in Minecraft or directly using existing models. You can also dig caves, tunnels and basements, with a very immersive and developed approach.

You unlock powers from an open skill tree to specialize in different playstyles. Despite what seem like character classes like thieves, warriors, wizards, you won't be forced to pick a specific class. During fights, you will be able to dodge, parry and surprise your enemies with your skills. As for weapons, you will have the choice with the shield, the sword, the stick and the bow.

Craft Enshrouded

In Enshrouded, you'll be able to craft and customize a mind-boggling array of legendary weapons and armor in order to survive in this hostile world. For this you will have to find NPCs and bring them back to your base so that they teach you crafting recipes and unlock advanced workshops.

The fights will take on a whole new dimension by matching your style and skills to those of your allies! Together you will be able to conduct raids, gather treasures and defeat the hordes of demons much more easily, the game being possible in cooperative gameplay up to 16!

Namely, that at the moment there is no precise release date yet, but early access on Steam will be available this year 2023, nothing is yet specified on the console side.
