Why Waterspout and Frenzy?

Waterspout allows you not to be stunned (unlike Frenzy), which makes it a very good ability against vipers, reanimated, yetis, urdars... to keep the same attack speed when you are slowed by the cold or Decrepit. It also allows you to hit more monsters at the same time (more practical against groups of small monsters), to move away from a group of monsters so as not to be surrounded, to cross monsters immune to injuries (especially in the worm's lair in hell mode) and go through the monsters to reach a boss or a summoning monster.

Your character's running speed is important since it will affect the execution speed of your Waterspout (but not the frequency of your hits). A good FRW will allow you to chain your waterspouts more quickly, which is much more destructive. The attribute "cannot be immobilized" (CBF) is therefore recommended. Frenzy greatly increases your movement speed for 6 seconds, which justifies the value of combining Frenzy and Waterspout.

Leveling equipment

Here is what you have to choose while waiting for the endgame equipment, you can also use the Immortal King set if necessary:

  • Early and midgame weapon:
    • Black Thul Io Nef, on maces and hammers (35)
    • Honor Amn El Ith Tir Sol, on melee weapons (27)
    • King's Grace Amn, Ral, Thul (25)
  • Hell Weapons:
    • Set Bul Kathos
    • Grandfather type unique swords
    • Unbending Will ASAP
  • Armor: treachery or set (lionheart or smoke before)
  • Helmet: Face of William or Crown of Arreat
  • Rings: rare with stolen life and mana, then frozen raven
  • Amulet: a rare then Endgame
  • Boots: rare with resistance and movement speed or set
  • Gloves: gloves with resistors or set
  • Belt: rare then set (Immortal King, Discipline)

Sword, mace, axe? Choosing the right weapon base:

In addition to attack speed tiers, each melee weapon has a range. A high range will allow you to hit more monsters during your Waterspout.

Axes

  • Battle Axe: 3
  • Axe, war spear, francisque: 2
  • Throwing Axe: 1
  • Hatchet: 1

Swords

  • Great Sword: 3
  • Two-handed sword, claymore, giant sword, flamberge: 3
  • Fauchard: 2
  • Phase Sword: 2
  • Mysterious Sword: 2
  • Mythic Sword: 2
  • Crystal Sword: 2
  • Glaive, scimitar, sabre, falchion, broadsword, rapier, war sword: 1

Maces and hammers

  • Bane: 3
  • Great Staff, War Staff, Studded Cudgel, Morning Star: 2
  • Staff, Club, Mace, Warhammer: 1

Javelins

  • Javelin, short spear, broadsword and javelins: 3

The berserk ax remains the top support for its range, its damage and its wide choice of runic words. This support also offers an interesting crafting formula for self-drop players.

Have the correct attack speed on Waterspout and Frenzy

Here is to understand how Trombe works:

  • Only the IAS of the weapon influences Trombe's attack speed, the IAS of the rest of the equipment has no effect.
  • Trombe's speed is calculated based on the speed of both weapons. The fastest weapon must be placed above the gloves.
  • To reach maximum speed with two berserk axes, it will take at least 34IAS on each of the two axes.

So you have to balance the speed of the two weapons to some degree. For two berserk axes, it is therefore more interesting to have 35 IAS-35 IAS, than 70 IAS-0,IAS, the 70 IAS of the 1st catches up a bit but the 0IAS of the 2nd will prevent you from reaching maximum speed with Trombe.

What you must remember :

  • calculating your attack speed will help you choose your equipment
  • the speed of Frenzy and Waterspout are not determined in the same way
  • a secondary weapon that is too slow will not be a handicap for Frenzy but it will be for Trombe, it's up to you to see if this weapon is worth it.

For Frenzy, you have the standard attack speed calculation system, here are the frames for two Berzerk Axes:

  • 0 13
  • 9 12.5
  • 11 12
  • 18 11.5
  • 26 11
  • 30 10.5
  • 48 9.5
  • 75 9
  • 86 8.5
  • 125 8
  • 180 7.5

Final equipment

Arms

  • Botd BA / CB
    • Indestructible +350to400ed +60IAS +30all char, +12to15ll +7ml
    • Big speed, huge damage, double leech, stat boost, poison nova style, no need to fix, +200ed vs undead
    • No deathblows and stinging blows

A safe bet because very complete, allows you to reach the last level of Frenzy without Fanaticism, allows you to have a correct Waterspout with a slow secondary weapon, brings a lot of freedom on the equipment thanks to the double leech and the high speed .

  • BA / CB / PB grievance
    • +350 to 400 min and max damage, 30 to 40IAS, +20% fatal blows, venom lvl15, ITD
    • Huge and regular damage, good speed, deathblows, ITD
    • The high repair cost, no stinging blows

The top in terms of damage, the repair cost is quite uncomfortable, plan a reserve of gold or regularly sell items. One solution is the phase sword which is indestructible, but it requires 136 dexterity and only has a range of 2. The skin is quite... special.

  • Death BA / CB
    • Indestructible +300to385ed +7ml +50%cb ~45%cm
    • Heavy damage, slashing and killing blows galore, mana leech, no need to fix
    • No IAS!!!

Huge damage and lots of stinging hits, but the lack of IAS requires playing with Fanaticism or having IAS on armor to reach Frenzy's max speed, it also slows Waterspout.

  • Beast BA
    • +240-270ed Fanaticism lvl9 20%cb 25%ow +25-40strength
    • Fanaticism, stinging blows and force
    • Lack of damage

An excellent weapon to accompany Botd, Death, Grief or Last wish. Allows you to easily reach max speed with Frenzy, to use a slow weapon as a 2nd weapon, increases the damage of both weapons and attack level.

  • Last wish BA / CB
    • +330-375ed Power lvl17 Life balance 60-70%cb ITD
    • Big damage, aura power, lots of stinging blows, Balance of life
    • No IAS!!!

Last wish allows you to do without Drakul and use another aura than power on merco act 2 (sacred immobilization or sacred purpose). Note that it can be done on a sword unlike Beast. It deals more damage than the latter but prevents the Grim Reaper's Deathknell from being exploited. It also slows down Trombe.

To conclude, here are the two setups that I recommend:

  • Botd + Beast on a Berzerk Axe, for versatility and power
  • Double Grief on a Berzerk Axe, for pure damage

armor

  • Enigma: For mobility and teleport fun, +45frw, +2sks, XNUMX strength points and other cool mods.
  • Fortitude: +300% ED, huge defense, 25-30 all res, health. Best for those who prefer teleport damage.
  • Chains of Honor: +2@ll good defense, +65@ll, 8%rd, 9ll, 20strength damage vs demons and undead. Good armor but inferior to Forty, still very useful for Uber Tristram.
  • Treachery +45IAS, venom lvl15, 20fhr, 30resfroid, Fade lvl15 which brings 60all res and 15% reduced damage. Allows to exploit slow weapons like Death or to play without Fanaticism. Can be useful for Uber tristram and for cheap armor.

Helmet

  • William's face
    • Above all for the +35% of stinging blows, but also for the defense, the +15strength, the +30fhr, +15%cm 1 slot. Very useful in builds that lack stinging hits (Botd, Grief).
    • We lose a lot of mods with Arreat, but we gain in potato, the loss of damage of +4 combat skills can be compensated by Scramblers.
    • The loss of resistances can be done via charms and jewels.
  • Arreat face
    • A little wonder for Barbarian, +2Barb +2 combat apt, big defense, 30fhr, lifesteal, +20force +20dex 1 slot.
    • Very good helmet if you have enough stinging blows.
  • crown of ages
    • Big defense, +1all, resists, reduce, fhr and allows with 2 holes to win an IAS level with 2 jewels (Ear chain or Arach instead of Nosfe for example).

Gloves

  • Razorsteel: +30-60ed, 10% cb +15-20strength 232 to 281 defense: bully gloves, serious competitors of Lay on Hands. Note that the +10%cb may encourage replacing Gore with WT.
  • Drakul: life balance, flight, strength, open wounds. Brings a lot of security.
  • Lay on Hands: +20ias, +50res fire and 350%ed against demons, which is huge.
  • Souldrinker double leech, cast Weaken, decrease enemy defense
  • Crafted Gloves: Gives 5-10% stinging blows, lifesteal, some life, and possibly cool bonuses like resists or IAS.

Crafting Formula: Heavy Gloves purchased from Merchants in Nightmare + Pure Ruby + Nave + Jewel

Belt

  • Chain of Ears: 6-8% lifesteal, 10-15% reduce damage
  • Nosferatu: 5 to 7% lifesteal, +15force and 10IAS to reach a possible speed plateau
  • Arach: for teleport fans, the 20fc of Arach will allow you to win an fc level, in particular the 27fc if you use a rare fc ring. The +1 can compensate for the fact that we remove Arreat for Guillaume.
  • Rare or craft belt: Life, strength, fhr and resistances, a little more ow for the craft.

Boots

  • Bloody +30frw, +10% +10%cm and 15% stinging hits, to be used when you run out of stinging hits.
  • War traveler +25frw, +10force +10vita +15-25 damage, this last bonus applies to both weapons, which makes a nice increase in damage, to be used when you have enough scathing blows.

Amulets

  • Wrath of the Lord (highlord) +1all, +20IAS, ~35%cm, +35 res lightning, the best for this character
  • Cat's eye +20IAS, +30frw, +25dex, +100 defense
  • Grid 400-450 attack level, 25-35 all resists and 300-350 defense. A great amulet for those who don't need Highlord's mods.
  • Divine amulet + divine ring Huge offensive power bonus and a lot of life. You will hit monsters more often (~15-20% more) which makes it a good competitor to Highlord/Cat's if you don't need 20IAS.
  • Crescent Moon +45mana 3-6% stolen life 11-15% stolen mana, allows to be quiet on the level of mana leech, allows to replace a rare ring mana leech by a bk or a 2nd raven.
  • Rare amulets, crafts and other unique ones You can find resistances, leech, skill bonuses, even fc.

Rings

  • Crow frozen (raven frost) Offensive power, dexterity, mana, cold absorb, and especially the "cannot be immobilized" which will prevent you from being slowed down by the cold. Almost essential.
  • Ring rare mana/life leech: for statistics
  • Alliance of Bull-Khatos: To gain life leech, +1sk and around forty life points (not taken into account by Order of Battle, however).

Switch

A barbarian can only have +3 to his bo (the ability, not the tree) on his 2 weapons which means that:

  • 2 Cta = 3 (bo) + 1 (skill of the first cta) + 1 (skill of the second) = +5 Bo
  • Hoto + cta = 3 (hoto) + 3 (bo) + 1 (cta skill) = +7 Bo
  • Hoto *2 = 3 + 3 = +6 Bo
  • 2 Spears +3 = +6 Bo

Mercenary, choice, equipment and leveling

Mercenary Act 2 with power

Leveling:

  • Treachery, Weapon or Helmet with Lifesteal

Poor

  • Grim Reaper Eth
    • Decrepit increases damage dealt, lowers wound immunities, and slows monsters. It is important for your mercenary to strike quickly to take advantage of it.
  • Stone Pride Pride eth (Cham Sur Io Lo)
    • Large damage increase thanks to the Concentration aura lvl18. The downside is the lack of increased weapon damage. Prefer a fast support, a threshing machine for example.
  • Infinity eth (Ber Mal Ber Ist)
    • high damage, 40% stinging hits and a big decrease in enemy defense. Why not.
  • Alternative choices:
    • Taill'Os eth for damage and life stolen
    • Eth Defiler for Versatility and MF
    • Eth Spirituality Iris (Ral Tir Tal Sol), for mana aura
    • Eth obedience (Hel Ko Thul Eth Fal) for cheap damage

Armor

  • Fortitude eth (El Sol Dol Lo) for damage
  • Treachery eth (Shael Thul Lem) for its power and accessibility
  • Eth wall upgraded for resistances
  • Duriel eth upgraded for resistors
  • Stone Stone eth (Shael Um Pul Lum) for resistances

Helmet

  • Face of Andarielle eth (to be set with a ral rune)
  • Ou
    • Vampiric Eye eth upgraded
    • Crown of Thieves eth upgraded

Mercenary Act 1

Leveling:

  • N/A, take the act 2 mercenary with power

Armor

  • Fortitude eth (El Sol Dol Lo) for damage
  • Treachery eth (Shael Thul Lem) for its power and accessibility
  • Eth wall upgraded for resistances
  • Duriel eth upgraded for resistors
  • Stone Stone eth (Shael Um Pul Lum) for resistances

Helmet

  • Face of Andarielle eth (jewels 15% attack speed or Ral)
  • Ou
    • Vampiric Eye eth upgraded
    • Crown of Thieves eth upgraded

Poor

  • Faith Faith (Ohm Jah Lem Eld)
  • Or Mist but less powerful

The Faith bow on a classic elite bow will allow your barbarian to benefit from the Fanaticism aura lvl12 to lvl15 (i.e. 118%ed to 144%ed). The added speed will allow you to decrease the IAS needed to have Frenzy at its maximum speed, which may mean additional stinging hit probabilities or better teleport speed.

The 15ias jewel allows you to reach the last level with a blade bow or a large bow, and the penultimate level with a bow doing more damage (but in this case you will need at least Fana lvl14). So pay close attention to the IAS levels of the rogue.

PvE gameplay

Just alternate Frenzy and Waterspout, the two attacks have a different utility and one improves the other so you will alternate them in a natural way.

If you have a good mana steal don't forget that you can use Good Attack, it's a lot of fun.

Remember that you can't drink potions during a Waterspout, so think twice before running through a group of tough monsters. In general, avoid stopping your waterspout in the middle of a group of monsters.

Waterspout is very useful against monsters that stun or hurt badly in close combat. Against monsters that stun and steal mana use Concentration. When you are slowed by the cold or by Decrepit use Waterspout instead.

Slashing Blows work best with Frenzy.

Don't forget to regularly raise your shouts with your special switch, 2 times Battle Command, Shout and Battle Order. Do not hesitate to redo it several times, it happens to press a key incorrectly in a hurry and it avoids unpleasant surprises.

PvP version

This build is also very powerful in PvP with a few variations:

  • if necessary, a Stormshield shield, against Amazon for example
  • Enigma for teleporting enemies (Sorcerer, Necro, Hammerdin, etc)
  • Fortitude for melee enemies (Barbarian, Smiter, etc)

History
