La season 4 Diablo 2 Resurrected didn't really offer new content, but at least some improvements. It was also at the same time as the launch of Diablo 4, which was understandable for Blizzard to keep priority on their new title. However, this new season 5 adds absolutely nothing, which will mean almost a year of D2R without any new features. Even if I was the first in the 2000s to loop the seasons on Diablo 2 and you had to be patient to get content, current expectations are different and Diablo 2 is no longer the only worthy hack and slash of this name.

Already the end of Diablo 2 Resurrected or an expansion in preparation?

The general idea is that Diablo 2 Resurrected was abandoned by the studio in favor of Diablo 4. However, Rod Fergusson confirmed that the new installment brought players to Diablo Immortal and therefore D2R could benefit from this same synergy, if it had the same massive content efforts as Diablo Immortal, and of course different profitability. There remains one solution, an expansion on Diablo 2 Resurrected. In addition to adding content, it would (temporarily) resolve the problem of profitability of the game and would be very appreciated by the majority of players. This would also explain why they are keeping the content for this expansion instead of the seasons. Also note that Diablo 3 had a large number of updates long after their expansions, but the timing was quite different. The good news is that Blizzcon will be November 3-4, the best time for this type of announcement, so there is little time to wait for the answer!
